Washington has become the first US state to allow human bodies to be turned into compost, rather than being buried or cremated.
Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a bill making it legal for licensed facilities to offer “natural organic reduction”, which turns a body, mixed with substances such as wood chips and straw, into soil in a span of just several weeks.

Although the hugely popular show ended this week after eight seasons, the debate on how it represented women will continue.
The data suggests that across all eight seasons, male speech amounts to about 75% of all speaking time in the series.
It was compiled by research group Ceretai for BBC 100 Women.

Brown, 15, who was forced off Twitter by cyberbullies, has been a vocal anti-bullying campaigner and became Unicef's youngest Goodwill Ambassador last year.

A television station in Alabama has refused to broadcast an episode of children's cartoon show Arthur because it featured a gay wedding.
The episode Mr Ratburn and the Special Someone saw Arthur's teacher – a cartoon rat – come out as gay and marry Patrick the aardvark.
The season 22 episode aired nationally, but Alabama Public Television (APT) decided to show a re-run instead.

The first episode of the 22nd series of children's programme Arthur features the character Mr Ratburn marrying his aardvark partner, Patrick.
But APT instead ran an old episode, and announced it had no plans to show the premiere.
Programming director Mike McKenzie said broadcasting it would break parents' trust in the network.
