Human composting to be allowed in Washington

Washington has become the first US state to allow human bodies to be turned into compost, rather than being buried or cremated.
Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a bill making it legal for licensed facilities to offer “natural organic reduction”, which turns a body, mixed with substances such as wood chips and straw, into soil in a span of just several weeks.
The process is based on that of “livestock composting” which has been used by farmers for several years.

Although the hugely popular show ended this week after eight seasons, the debate on how it represented women will continue.
The data suggests that across all eight seasons, male speech amounts to about 75% of all speaking time in the series.
It was compiled by research group Ceretai for BBC 100 Women.

Millie Bobby Brown, the British star of hit show Stranger Things has said she was forced to change schools by “soul-breaking bullies” in England.
Brown, 15, who was forced off Twitter by cyberbullies, has been a vocal anti-bullying campaigner and became Unicef's youngest Goodwill Ambassador last year.

Alabama TV station pulls Arthur episode over gay wedding scene

A television station in Alabama has refused to broadcast an episode of children's cartoon show Arthur because it featured a gay wedding.
The episode Mr Ratburn and the Special Someone saw Arthur's teacher – a cartoon rat – come out as gay and marry Patrick the aardvark.
The season 22 episode aired nationally, but Alabama Public Television (APT) decided to show a re-run instead.

Arthur: Alabama Public Television bans gay wedding episode 21 May 2019 Image copyright WGBH & PBS KIDS Image caption Many praised the episode for showing a same-sex marriage on a children's TV series Alabama Public Television (APT) has refused to broadcast a cartoon which shows a same-sex wedding.
The first episode of the 22nd series of children's programme Arthur features the character Mr Ratburn marrying his aardvark partner, Patrick.
But APT instead ran an old episode, and announced it had no plans to show the premiere.
Programming director Mike McKenzie said broadcasting it would break parents' trust in the network.
In a statement, Mr McKenzie said “parents trust that their children can watch APT without their supervision”, and that children “younger than the 'target' audience” might watch without parental knowledge.
